The Genesis of the Panguil Bay Bridge
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Panguil Bay Bridge was held on November 27, 2018. Construction officially began on February 28, 2020. The bridge is partly funded under the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Agreement, with South Korean firm Kyong-Ho Engineering and Architect Co. Ltd. involved in the construction. Expenses not covered by the loan will be funded by the Philippine national government.
The Significance of the Panguil Bay Bridge
The Panguil Bay Bridge is more than just a feat of engineering. It is a symbol of progress and connectivity. Upon its completion, travel time between Tangub and Tubod will be cut from 2.5 hours to just a few minutes. This will significantly boost the local economy by improving access to markets and services, fostering regional growth, and promoting tourism.
The Design and Features of the Panguil Bay Bridge
The Panguil Bay Bridge is designed as a two-way, two-lane bridge based on pre-stressed concrete box girders. It features two pylons, and its longitudinal section will be 320m-long. The bridge also includes two approach bridge sections and approach roads, measuring 2.04km and 1.42km, respectively.
The Current Status of the Panguil Bay Bridge
As of June 2022, the project is more than 50% complete, with partial operations expected by 2023. The bridge is on track for opening by 2024.
