Brighter Roads, Safer Drives: DPWH Illuminates Pancian-Adams Road in Ilocos Norte

April 19, 2024 - Nighttime travel on a portion of Pancian-Adams Road in Adams, Ilocos Norte, is now safer thanks to a newly completed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) project.

DPWH Regional Director Ronnel M. Tan announced the project's completion, undertaken by the DPWH Ilocos Norte 1st District Engineering Office (DEO). The initiative involved installing 202 solar LED streetlights along a 7.34-kilometer stretch of the road in Barangay Adams.

This strategic placement of solar lights will significantly improve visibility, especially on the winding mountainside sections with steep inclines and blind curves.

"The improved visibility will help prevent accidents often occurring on such roads," said Director Tan, referencing a report by DPWH Ilocos Norte 1st District Engineer Glenn C. Miguel.

"The use of solar-powered LED lights makes this project not only beneficial for safety but also sustainable and cost-effective in the long run," Director Tan added. "These lights are ideal for the Philippines' tropical climate, receiving ample sunlight throughout the year. They are water-resistant, require minimal maintenance, and function independently of the national grid."

The P49 million project was implemented by DPWH Ilocos Norte 1st DEO and funded through the 2023 General Appropriations Act, spearheaded by Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative and Senior Deputy Majority Speaker Alexander "Sandro" A. Marcos.
