DPWH Paves the Way for Progress in Iloilo Municipalities

April 19, 2024 - Leganes and Leon in Iloilo now boast improved accessibility thanks to the Department of Public Works and Highways' (DPWH) completion of two concrete access roads.

DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel announced the projects: a 765-meter, two-lane concrete farm-to-market road (FMR) in Sitio Ubos, Barangay Lapayon, Leganes, and a 319.4-meter, two-lane portland concrete cement pavement road in Barangay Tagsing, Leon.

These new roads mean residents of far-flung communities no longer have to deal with muddy or dusty paths. Travel to town centers, public facilities, and businesses is now easier and faster.

More importantly, the improved roads pave the way for the unimpeded transport of agricultural products. Farmers can now bring their goods to markets more efficiently and cost-effectively.

"Barangays Lapayon and Tagsing are major sources of agricultural produce," said Director Oropel. "By improving these roads, we support food production and open up economic opportunities in these areas."

The P11.8 million FMR project in Leganes was a joint effort between DPWH Iloilo's 4th District Engineering Office and the Department of Agriculture. The road concreting project in Leon, meanwhile, cost P4.9 million.
